Video Poker

Video poker has inherently belonged to a large family of casino games for several years. It came out of the classic Five Card Draw poker game, and as you can guess from the title, you certainly won’t physically touch the cards. Your opponent will be a computer. It can be played in specialized playrooms and brick and mortar casinos, or directly from the living room. Online casinos know how to make their players satisfied and give them a great gaming experience anywhere. So if you have practiced an exemplary poker face, you can safely set it aside and have fun with a wide smile.

Video poker už pár let neodmyslitelně patří do rozsáhle rodiny kasinových her.

Classic Poker vs. Video Poker

Poker is generally one of the most popular card games around the world. However, classical poker is not just a luck-based game like most of the other gambling games. On the contrary, the acquired skills, which interconnect mathematics and psychology, are essential for it. Tens of thousands of players have worked their way up to the professional level. They make a living from it and constantly work on themselves to strike down the competition.

Video poker perfectly combines the principles of classical poker and modern gambling. But it is much easier. You will not need great skills and experience here, it is rather a game of fortune. Yet the previous experience of real poker, when you taste the unique atmosphere at the table, is priceless. You’ll better understand poker hands and make video poker easier and more fun for you.

History of (Video) Poker

The roots of the original poker go back to the distant past. The very first predecessor was probably the Persian card game “As Nas”, which was played with 25 cards of 5 different colors. Subsequently, it was brought to Europe by French sailors and gradually turned out to be the German game “Pochspiel” and the French “Poque”. It further expanded to America and, around 1800, earned the name “Poker”. Since the mid-19th century, poker has been played with 52 cards.

With the arrival of modern technology, poker has evolved and has gradually expanded from gaming tables to slot machines. In the mid-1970s, William Si Redd, who was an employee of the Bally Technologies, came up with a proposal for a new game. Although his idea was rejected by the management of the company, he was not discouraged. He founded his own company, Sircoma, nowadays known as International Game Technology (IGT), and began making video poker machines. In 1979, his slot machine, called “Draw Poker”, appeared in many casinos in the US. In the mid-1980s, video poker finally broke into the gambling market.

Now, thanks to online casinos, it has spread worldwide and is one of the most popular and most frequently played casino games. And William Redd is deservedly referred to as “the father of video poker.”

Video Poker Rules

Video poker is derived from classic poker, but it has more to do with slot machines. In most cases, however, the dealings and hand combinations are followed by the rules of normal poker. After depositing the money, you select the amount you want to bet and click the “Deal Draw” button to start the game. You will receive 5 cards and your goal is to get winning hands, just like with regular poker.

Each card hand has a payout ratio based on the pay table, which the casino calculates based on the probability of winning that hand. Expect the smallest multiple of your bet for: a pair, two pairs or three. And the highest for: Straight or Royal Flush.

Winning combinations:

  • Royal Flush = Straight 10, J, Q, K, A of the same suit
  • Straight Flush = 5 cards in a row of one suit
  • Four of a Kind = 4 cards of the same value
  • Full house = a pair and a three of a kind
  • Flush = 5 cards of the same suit
  • Straight = Straight from cards of any suit
  • Three of a Kind = three cards of the same value
  • Two Pair = two pairs of equal value
  • One Pair = two cards of the same value

Video poker is a fairly simple card game with lots of options and variations. The choice is yours, but don’t forget your thoughtful strategy to beat the computer and win. Ideal preparation? Play free video poker from the comfort of your home and get to know it up close before you start a hard fight.
